I realize I’m about to write the sappiest post ever, but I just can’t help it…cue the violins, tonight was incredible.
Martin Rivas & Craig Meyer hosted the first Backscratch session, where local artists cover eachothers songs, hence the “backscratch”. We were randomly assigned the other artist, and it was awesome.
I drew a very cool guy named Robbie Gil, and it was nice to explore his music… I took some liberties with his song, Paint by Numbers, and was a bit nervous to play it in front of him..haha..but, though f’ing it up a couple times, he said he loved it and asked me to come play my version of it as his next show. So I think I done good. :)
But what was truly dope about the night was the amount of support we all had for eachother. I don’t think any of us have felt that kind of family, or connection from SO many other talented artists, to such an extent before. I’ve been playing with Mart and Craig (and Brian, Ryan, Oscar, Dan etc…all amazing guys), for about 6 months now, and we feel it on stage every time… but to feel it from the other artists who I respect was something new and inspiring.
I’m totally overwhelmed with this gnawing feeling that what they did tonight, or really, what we all did, was to cement what has been starting the past year or so… love, baby.
No bullshit, no competition, nothing but a whole lotta love. And music chiiiiild.
And while i’m on that tip -
check out the rest of the awesome artists who were also in the Backscratch tonight:
Amy Regan, Kailin Garrity, Nick Howard, Robbie Gil, Dan Torres, Jesse Gage, Josh Dion, Martin Rivas, Dave Pittenger.
Thank you all for putting so much love into the night. Can’t wait for the next one!
The hippie in me comes out late at night..I hope this poem calms your little monkey mind down. (it does for mine :)
namaste my dears.
Within my mind I live on a small blue planet. Everyone seems far away, No one seems close. Everywhere is blackness, Yet abundant life consumes each moment. I wish and hope Everyone could see this blue fragile life Floating in the blackness— Next time they miss the bus, Next time they forget to look and smile.
We are floating on a blue dot– We should all be frightfully concerned. No matter what you think, what I think, We will always be on this blue dot, Unless we are the masters of darkness Or the emperors of blackness.
Look at each other– Be kind Stop Look up See blue. That color came from somewhere. It could be another color if we don’t play our cards right. Our worst enemies we should hold, Because even they love blue.
